Happy Thanksgiving!

I've had a hard time coming up with what I am thankful for this year. It's not that there isn't anything to be thankful, it's that I have SO MUCH to be thankful for. For instance, I have my kids, my husband, food on my table every night, family, friends, health, etc. Since I can't narrow my list down much, I've asked each member of my little family what they are most thankful for this year. Their responses are below.

Justin: My girls, all three of them, first and foremost. I'm also thankful for my job and my health.

Kendra: My Little Pony, You, Daddy, the Baby, and Froggy.

Alexis: Awwh blech coo goo awh gee. (I'll translate: My wonderful mommy and daddy and a great big sister!)

I guess that leaves me...I thought maybe by the time I jotted down everyone else's, I'd have my list narrowed down, but I don't. I guess this year I'm most thankful for opportunity. I'm lucky, and I know it. I'm also thankful for babies, my own and my new nephew. I'm thankful that me and everyone in my family is relatively healthy, especially my mom, who had a pretty major surgery this year with some complications. I'm thankful that I have a smart 4-year-old to keep me on my toes. I'm thankful for an equally smart husband who also keeps me on my toes! I have so much more to be thankful for (and I am) but if I jotted it all down, I'd be here all day, and since it is Thanksgiving, I better go get ready to stuff my face! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

My Experiment...

So, I've spent all evening pondering this, and I do believe I'm going to give it a shot. Somewhat of an experiment you might say. Here's the deal. I need to expand my cooking horizons. I cook the same things over, and over, and over. And, even though I love baking, I never do it. This lead me to dream up this experiment. 100 recipes in 100 days. Yup, that's right. I want to cook 100 things I've never cooked before in 100 days. It can be anything....anything at all. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, or none of the above! Here are the rules I'm setting out for myself.

* While doing this experiment, I CAN NOT repeat any of the 100 recipes I choose.
* It does not have to be 100 consecutive days. However, I must have a darn good excuse for NOT making a recipe on any given day (i.e. sickness, not being home, holidays, etc.)
* I must blog about every recipe ON THE DAY I make it!
* Recipes must be made in order. I will have a list of all 100 recipes and follow that list.

So, there we have it. I welcome any and all comments on rules I should make...and of course, RECIPES! I will begin my hunt tomorrow...and start a list of the recipes I cook. I'll let you know when I start!

#98: Learn how to change a tire - check. Although not by choice.

So, today I had an appointment in Hays, so the girls and I loaded up for what we thought would be a fun afternoon...the girls were gonna get to see their great-grandma and I was going to get to see one of my good friends. Unfortunately, PH road had different ideas for us. I hit a HUGE pot hole going about 55 and bent not one, but TWO of my rims. Yes, dear friends, I bent two rims by hitting a pot hole. So, since we were out in the middle of nowhere, and waiting for Justin's dad, we took the opportunity for me to learn how to change a tire. It's rather easy actually, and if it wouldn't have been so unplanned, I would have pictures with step by step instructions...but, alas, no camera means no pictures. Boo. Anyhow, I feel confident that if the situation were to ever arise again, I would be fully capable of changing my own tire. Go me. Something good can come out of every situation!

Spooktacular!

It was a wonderfully busy Halloween for the Ryan family! Kendra was in the costume contest again this year. After the contest, we took a break long enough to eat lunch, then it was on to the games, haunted house, and trick or treating! Kendra got to meet up with Lizzie, which was also good for Mommy as she got to catch up with a friend and take in some adult interaction. After the trick or treating was done, we headed home for a little more trick or treating. I would like to mention that both kids were so exhausted that they fell asleep in the car before we were even out of town!
